A device for stealing confidential information at ATMs. A skimmer can be an overlay at the ATM mouth for swiping data from the bank card magnetic strip, or a hidden video camera installed on the ATM. PIN code theft employs fake keyboards to transmit the entered digits to the cybercriminals.

A separate class of skimmers works by copying the bank card, providing access to it for a short while. This type of skimming happens in small shops and public catering establishments when the bill is settled by card.
