A cross-platform program for managing network infrastructure. It allows file and printer sharing, and can act as a domain controller, including support for Active Directory. Samba implements a non-proprietary (free) version of the SMB network protocol created by Microsoft.
The software is popular with system administrators for its flexible settings and configurability through either a graphical interface or console. Samba is developed by a team of enthusiasts and distributed as free software.
