A scam in which an attacker registers a domain name similar to the address of a legitimate website in an attempt to fool visitors. Typosquatters often create whole networks of fake sites that exploit typical typos or name similarity:

  • cm instead of com
  • cokacola instead of cocacola
  • pobedaaero instead of pobeda.aero

The aim is usually to earn money through displaying ads, but typosquatting can also be used for phishing.
