Free software

Software whose author grants full rights to an unlimited number of users to perform any actions with it, including modification and upgrading. Unlike freeware, free software is distributed with the source code, which can be used as the basis for customized versions of the original program. The GNU General Public License (developed by the movement’s guru Richard Stallman) is used to license free software.
