Domain name

A structured text identifier for a separate Internet resource.

The domain name of a specific object in the network contains the names of all levels to which it is subordinate. For example, the name test.site.ru means that the resource named site is part of the domain extension ru, and the subdomain test belongs to the area named site. In the above example, ru is the first-level domain, site is the second, and test is the third.

Every domain name is associated with a specific IP address used for delivering data packets. The mapping of text identifiers to a unique host address is handled by a DNS hosting service.
